This favorite coffee from Indonesia's largest island, Sumatra, has magnificent full body, almost syrupy richness and smooth complex flavor. The herbal, spicy flavors will linger on your tongue while the earthy, rich aroma fills the air.
While most coffees are named after the country, or growing region, where it is farmed and harvested, Mandheling coffee is named after the Mandheling People that traditionally farmed and processed the coffee beans. A WWII Japanese military man stationed in Sumatra is said to have asked a local Sumatran where his coffee originated, but the Sumatran man mistakenly thought he was being asked about his ethnicity and replied "Mandheling". Later, word spread to Japan, and then the name stuck as merchants began inquiring about the purchase of Mandheling coffee from Sumatra.
Sumatra Mandheling is grown in west-central Sumatra near the port of Padang at altitudes of 2,500 to 5,000 feet. A semi-dry processed coffee, Mandheling is flavorful, full bodied and has a low acidity.
Sumatra Mandheling is dark roasted and shipped the same day for superior flavor and freshness. Your fresh roasted coffee is immediately sealed in a foil valve bag.
